Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle was a disappointment for me. I had heard a lot of good stuff about the movie, and it was in the road trip sub genre that I love so much, but the actual film turned out to be amusing at best, with some sparse laughs. Not bad, but not something I would pay to see in a theater.
And the second one is looking like more of the same, so I’m pretty sure I won’t be rushing out to see this one on the opening weekend. Perhaps when it comes out on DVD.
I feel like I should love this movie, but the trailer really isn’t working for me. Sure, the concept is interesting, the players are all exceptional and the talent behind the camera is immense. But the trailer just isn’t that funny. Or touching. Or anything really.
And as much as I like him as a dramatic actor, I’m not convinced John C. Reilly can cut it as the star of a comedy.
But we will see. perhaps it will turn out to be great.
At this point I’m going to go see Steve Carell in any movie that doesn’t seem completely stupid. And yes, that does mean I didn’t go see Evan Almighty.
To be quite honest, this isn’t the most exciting trailer. Not that many laughs and the more dramatic parts fell a little flat. But the idea of seeing Carell in another part that mixes drama and comedy is by itself exciting, so I will remain very hopeful for now.
God bless Ryan Gosling. Even tough he is an Oscar nominee and a well respected and sought after actor he is still out there doing small movies and taking on quirky characters. And I think the movie world is better for it.
I’m not sure about this movie tough. It could be funny and moving, which I think is what they are going for, but pulling that out will be hard. It could very well turn out to be a mess. But we will see.
This has to be one of the craziest premises of any movie in the last ten years. Erase all the tapes in your video store? No problem, just remake the movies yourself. Crazy, and brilliant.
I was already really interested in this movie before the trailer, just based on the premise and on Michel Gondry directing. The trailer made me even more interested, in large part because it makes me think that the chemistry between Jack Black and Mos Def will work wonderfully. Both have proven that they are very good comic actors, but before I wasn’t sure if they would work well together. No I have next to no doubt.
Certainly one of my most anticipated movies right now.
I’m quite interested in this movie, and the trailer generally did a good job of keeping me that way. But the voice over and music is sooooo over the top and ponderous, it almost seems like a parody of some sorts. Really weird.
I really disliked the last Lion For Lambs trailer. This one makes it seem like a totally different, and more interesting film. But I’m still not sold.
I mostly worried that the movie will be too preachy and on the nose without actually being moving or challenging the audience intellectually. And yes, I’m afraid Tom Cruise was miscast.
WTF? No Seriously, WTF? That is one weird trailer. Honestly, after watching I still have no idea what the movie is about? perhaps it’s a bout a guy living with nine different versions of himself? Some parts of the trailer seem to point to something like that, but there a whole lot of other things in there that seem to go much beyond something like that.
The Nines has gotten some pretty good reviews since it premiered in Sundance. And John August, who wrote and directed the movie, is certainly a very talented screenwriter. So I was already interested in the movie, and the trailer made me more curious about it. But if I knew nothing about the film and I watched that trailer, I’m not sure what my reaction would have been.
This looks more than a little bit silly. Maybe a little stupid even. And yet, I think it just might turn out to be a fun little movie. The kind of stuff you forget about the minute you leave the theater, but that still makes for an entertaining couple of hours.
I still think this looks quite a bit like a Michael Mann movie, but can it be as good as a Michael Mann movie? A lot of the pieces seem to be in place. The subject matter is interesting, the actors are good and I happen to think that the director Peter Berg (The Rundown, Friday Night Lights) is very talented. Reaching Michael Mann heights might be tough, but even if it doesn’t I think it will be a very good film.
