There Will Be Blood is the single film I’m most looking forward to this year. Why? Three words: Paul Thomas Anderson, director and writer of such classics as Boogie Nights and Magnolia. I love his work, and it’s been five years since his last film, so you can bet I’m anxious.
Now, this is unfamiliar territory for him, both because of the film’s genre and because it’s an adapted screenplay. But I think this makes things even more exciting. I’m looking forward to see what he does with this kind of material.
The teaser doesn’t give us much, just a look at the main character, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, and at the general setting. Give us more!
Now, this is a pretty great trailer for what is sure to be a pretty great movie. Since it is being directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line), stars Christian Bale and Russel Crowe and is based on what was supposedly a very good movie, I was already expecting a lot from it. And the trailer doesn’t disappoint.
I’m thinking that the most interesting aspect of the film is going to be seeing how the Bale and Crowe characters interact as the situation gets tenser and tenser. We get a taste of that in the trailer and it looks yummy. Hopefully the movie will deliver it in spades.
This is looking like a pretty good year for Russel Crowe, with this and American Gangster. The two movies could disappoint, but they are both looking like really good bets.
