I think that the big question with Funny Games is whether it is actually worth watching the remake instead of just renting the original, considering that they both share the same director. But I have little doubt that this will make fr a very good, if somewhat disturbing, film.

The Nines Trailer
(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)
WTF? No Seriously, WTF? That is one weird trailer. Honestly, after watching I still have no idea what the movie is about? perhaps it’s a bout a guy living with nine different versions of himself? Some parts of the trailer seem to point to something like that, but there a whole lot of other things in there that seem to go much beyond something like that.
The Nines has gotten some pretty good reviews since it premiered in Sundance. And John August, who wrote and directed the movie, is certainly a very talented screenwriter. So I was already interested in the movie, and the trailer made me more curious about it. But if I knew nothing about the film and I watched that trailer, I’m not sure what my reaction would have been.

Eastern Promises
(Quicktime Version)
David Cronenberg’s films aren’t always good, but they are always interesting. So I’m definitely looking forward to this film. The trailer makes the movie look a little too typical, but I’m sure Cronenberg will deliver something unexpected.

No Country For Old Men Trailer
Variety brings us the first look at the new film by the Coen Brothers “No Country For Old Men”. And it is pretty impressive. I’m getting an early Coens vibe from this film, with perhaps a little less dark humor. A little.
And in case you were wondering, I think the early Coens is a pretty great thing indeed. Blood Simple is an amazing film, and still one of the very best in their filmography.

The Invasion Trailer
So, is this movie a creepy thriller, like the originals, or an action oriented remake, like what was done in the Dawn of the Dead remake? I’m not sure, and I don’t think the trailer knows either. It starts out looking like the former. But about two thirds of the way in it suddenly cranks the action up significantly, making it look like a very different type of movie.
This trailer, coupled with the film’s troubled production history, makes me very worried. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the film itself wasn’t too sure about what type of film it wants to be.

Joshua Trailer
This looks a lot like a a non-supernatural version of The Prophecy, doesn’t it? I think that is a good thing, although other people might disagree.
The trailer has a bit of a pacing problem, especially towards the end. But it is creepy enough, and it does tell us what the movie is about pretty clearly. So I guess it’s not bad. Definitely got me more interested in the film.
Joshua opens July 6.
