Funny Games Trailer

I think that the big question with Funny Games is whether it is actually worth watching the remake instead of just renting the original, considering that they both share the same director. But I have little doubt that this will make fr a very good, if somewhat disturbing, film.

Aliens Vs. Predator requiem Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

I used to think that the idea of an Aliens Vs. Predator movie was really cool. But then I saw the Paul W. S. Anderson directed Aliens Vs. Predator and the movie turned out to be, much to my amazement, boring. Now, I’m sure that is in large part Anderson’s fault, but I can’t help but to be much less excited about the sequel.

And the trailer didn’t get me any more excited. Sure, it looks like it might be better than the first. At least it should have more violence to keep the audience from falling asleep. But that is like saying sawdust tastes better than toilet paper, not exactly high praise. Nothing about the trailer say “yes, they got it, they know how to pull it off.”

Consider me skeptical.

NewHalloween Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I disliked the first Halloween trailer, mostly because I thought it made the movie look like a low rent version of the original. This new trailer does a much better job of making the new version seem like it’s own film. Unfortunately it also makes it look like crap.

I really do want this movie to be good. But the more I see the more I think it won’t.

Resident Evil: Extinction Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Man, don’t you hate when you are watching a a trailer for a movie you know will suck and you find yourself thinking “Wow, that is kind of cool”? Well that is what just happened to me as I was watching this trailer. I know that Extinction isn’t going to be good because of the series track record. And the trailer itself has some bad elements. But still, I can’t help but to think that in the right hands this could actually be a good movie.

Dragon Wars Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

Before I saw the Korean monster movie The Host I was worried that whatever the merits of that movie, they would be spoiled by bad CGI. After all this was a movie that had a very modest budget by Hollywood standards and that had a completely CGI creature at the center of the action.

My worries turned out to be misguided. The CGI in The Host was great and didn’t take me out of the movie at all. But now I’m having the same fears for D-War, and this time the trailer seems to confirm them a little. There were some scenes in there that looked really bad and that made me feel like the CGI just might be bad enough to completely ruin the movie.

I’ll wait and see if some more reassuring footage comes out. But right now I’m no very hopeful.

Trick r’ Treat Trailer

This looks quite interesting. Kind of funny, but also with some scary beats. Has the potential to be a very interesting addition for us horror lovers, and it will be certainly quite different than most other horror films coming out this year.

Catacombs Trailer

Watch more Catacombs Trailer ’s

This trailer for Catacombs reminds me a lot of The Descent, another horror movie that involved a group of women going into a dangerous cave “for fun” and finding themselves stuck and facing unexpected perils. The Descent was a really good horror movie, but I get the feeling Catacombs won’t measure up to it. The trailer gave me the impression that the scares will be too obvious and that the characters won’t be nearly as interesting.

Of course, it’s just the trailer, so I could be wrong. The premise certainly is a good one.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Via Filmick we have the UK trailer for All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, a little horror movie that has been getting some positive reviews.

My faith in the capacity of teen slasher films to be good and to escape the bad cliches of the genre is endless. So I’m very hopeful the Mandy Lane will indeed be one of the more interesting entries in this beloved (by me anyway) genre, and that it will have something new to say.

And by and large the trailer is promising, focusing not so much in the killing but instead turning it’s eyes towards the characters and their interactions. I also love the choice of music, which is sweet and contrasts well with the tension going on the screen.

Looking good so far.

30 Days of Night Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

Interesting twist on an old premise? Check. An young director who has already shown talent in an earlier, smaller movie? Check. From a well respected source material? Check. A very nice trailer that leaves you wanting to see more? Check. Me very interested? Double Check.

I have been very interested in this movie ever since I saw the awesome Hard Candy, which was also directed by David Slade. That movie was very small, and it happened in a very constrained environment, so there was always the possibility that he wouldn’t be able to handle a movie which required more visual range. But the trailer looks great, so I’m not very worried anymore.

And hate on me if you like, but I don’t particularly dislike Josh Hartnett. No, he wouldn’t be my first choice for this, but I’m pretty sure he can handle it well enough. Or at least I hope so.

30 Days of Night opens October 19th.

Fido Trailer

This looks like a very good option for a double feature with Shaun of the Dead. While the latter both embraced and mocked the zombie genre, this one takes the route of turning it on it’s head. Seems like an interesting idea, and the trailer is funny.
