Most Christmas movies are either too sugary, or simply stupid. And quite a few are both. But there are some exceptions. Films like Elf and Bad Santa, that manage to be funny and a little subversive, while still having the Christmas spirit at its core.
I’m afraid Fred Claus isn’t going to be one of these movies. If the trailer is any indication. It’s going to be one of the stupid unfunny ones.
Honestly, I didn’t laugh one time during the trailer. Not one! How is it possible that you have a movie with Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti and you can’t find one truly funny moment to put on the trailer? Unbelievable.
This looks just trippy enough to be interesting, doesn’t it?
Bending a film’s reality in order to better portray the internal feelings of the characters can lead to some very interesting scenes. And bored at work has great potential for comedy. Both of those things are hard to do well, but I’m hopeful for this one.
Well, this looks like a smart, fun and harmless women friendly movie. Which is something we need more of.
Way too many films that target women specifically are of the cliched romantic comedy type. Although this movie is not likely to be one of the best films of the year, it should at least make for an entertaining couple of hours.
Oh man, this is great. I don’t think there are any scenes in the trailer that didn’t make me laugh.
Andy Samberg seems to have managed to create a character that is ridiculous and a bit stupid, but still very lovable. That is something that Will Farrell does very well, although Will’s characters also tend to be a bit obnoxious, something that Rod apparently isn’t.
I’m getting a Dodgeball vibe from this movie: stupid but hilarious. It’s always possible that they put all the good stuff in the trailer, leaving nothing good in the movie itself. But if that is not the case this could turn out to be a real treat.
I’m a big fan of Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale. The film manages to be both really sad and really funny, without ever hitting a false note. Making people and their interaction seem as real as he did in that movie is very hard, and something we rarely see.
This will be his second movie as a director, and it seems to thread a somewhat familiar ground, also dealing with dysfunctional families. However, I get the feeling from the trailer that this movie will be somewhat lighter than The Squid and the Whale, which was quite heavy in parts. The use of Jack Black adds to that feeling. He is a very good comic actor, but doesn’t strike me as someone that would be able to deal with heavier material very well.
Regardless, I’m still very anxious to see this one. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a release date yet, but it should open at some point during the fall.
As someone who tends to like very offbeat comedies involving quirky, socially awkward characters, I’m looking forward to being able to see Rocket Science. But the trailer makes me feel that this movie will be more of a niche thing, without so much mainstream appeal, unlike Little Miss Sunshine or Napoleon Dynamite. That is not a bad thing, of course. Not every movie has to appeal to everybody.
The trailer is also not quite as funny as I hoped it would be. And it’s perhaps a little more confusing than it needs to be. But it still looks interesting. Let’s hope the movie is even better.
This trailer is a little better than the first No Reservations Trailer. But I still have the same fears about the movie I had back then. Will Zeta-Jones be able to pull this character off? Will this be just a watered down version of the original German film?
Oh, I love the Ben Stiller has to deal with crazy people in order to get his true love genre. And the trailer looks funny. And it’s a film by the Farrelly brothers. They were funny. Once. Perhaps now they will be funny again?
I’m not sure I buy the pairing of Tea Leoni and Ben Kingsley. But otherwise this seems like a fine movie. Interesting premise, a couple of laugh and a couple of thrills. Of course, this is exactly the kind o film that, if executed poorly, can be very silly and unbelievable. But I’m an optimist, so I’m going to guess the this one works.
