New National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

This looks more than a little bit silly. Maybe a little stupid even. And yet, I think it just might turn out to be a fun little movie. The kind of stuff you forget about the minute you leave the theater, but that still makes for an entertaining couple of hours.

New The Kingdom Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I still think this looks quite a bit like a Michael Mann movie, but can it be as good as a Michael Mann movie? A lot of the pieces seem to be in place. The subject matter is interesting, the actors are good and I happen to think that the director Peter Berg (The Rundown, Friday Night Lights) is very talented. Reaching Michael Mann heights might be tough, but even if it doesn’t I think it will be a very good film.

Resident Evil: Extinction Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Man, don’t you hate when you are watching a a trailer for a movie you know will suck and you find yourself thinking “Wow, that is kind of cool”? Well that is what just happened to me as I was watching this trailer. I know that Extinction isn’t going to be good because of the series track record. And the trailer itself has some bad elements. But still, I can’t help but to think that in the right hands this could actually be a good movie.

Dragon Wars Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

Before I saw the Korean monster movie The Host I was worried that whatever the merits of that movie, they would be spoiled by bad CGI. After all this was a movie that had a very modest budget by Hollywood standards and that had a completely CGI creature at the center of the action.

My worries turned out to be misguided. The CGI in The Host was great and didn’t take me out of the movie at all. But now I’m having the same fears for D-War, and this time the trailer seems to confirm them a little. There were some scenes in there that looked really bad and that made me feel like the CGI just might be bad enough to completely ruin the movie.

I’ll wait and see if some more reassuring footage comes out. But right now I’m no very hopeful.

10,000 B.C. Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I’m not at all a fan of Roland Emmerich. Godzilla was a missed opportunity and Independence Day, despite some major qualities, was in the end too stupid and unbelievable to be really good. But the idea of making a Hollywood style effects extravaganza movie that takes place during pre-history is just too good for me to just dismiss it because he is directing.

The trailer itself is just a teaser and doesn’t show us much. It also doesn’t tell us what the story is about. But still, I’m sort of excited.

Hitman Trailer

Via MovieWeb we have the Hitman Trailer.

I have never played Hitman. As a matter of fact I was only half aware that there was such a thing as a game called Hitman before the film was announced. So, I looked at this trailer from the perspective of someone that knows next to nothing about the property.

It’s a cool trailer. And I think I get the basic premise: a guy who is an extraordinary hit man, and who kills people in order to achieve some sort of good. But a lot of the trailer left me confused. For example, there seems to be some religious element to the film, but I have no idea of what it is exactly or what it means for the main character.

And the trailer expends way too much time showing cool letters flying around instead of actually showing scenes from the movie and the main character. Perhaps we will get another trailer down the road, in which case I’m inclined to think that this is a pretty decent teaser. But it just doesn’t tell me enough right now to get me really excited about the film.

A giant serpent attacking Los Angeles. What more could you possibly want?

Yeah, I want to see this movie. It looks fun! Admit it, the trailer got you interested too, didn’t it?

I Am Legend Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

One of the reasons why Will Smith is now the biggest star in the world is that he has made interesting choices when it comes to which movies he appears in. Not all of this interesting choices turned into good movies, of course, but at least they always had the possibility of becoming good movies.

I Am Legend was another interesting choice, and the trailer gives me hope that it might turn out to be a good movie also. Since this is just a teaser, it doesn’t actually show us much. But it does give us an idea of who the character is, of what happened to him, and of the world he is in now. And the shots of a desolated, crumbling New York are mesmerizing.

The movie only comes out in December, so we should get more trailers before that. But it’s looking good so far.

Early Trailer For John Rambo

(Quicktime Version)

There was a point in this trailer where I laughed out loud. Considering that this is a very serious trailer that is not a good thing.

The Rambo series was always a little silly. But if the trailer is any indication, this latest installment takes it way over the top. And Stallone looks way too old for the part. The only nice thing I can say about it is that it seems like they take the Rambo character back to his roots as an out of control, deeply disturbed Vietnam vet. But that is not going to be nearly enough to make this a watchable film.

New Transformers Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I’m still finding it hard to believe, but the truth is that Transformers, Michael Bay’s Transformers, is looking really, really good. And the more we see, the better it seems.

Right now, Pirates 3 is still my most anticipated film of the summer. But I think this just moved up to a surprisingly close number two.
