The Kite Runner Trailer

I’m quite interested in this movie, and the trailer generally did a good job of keeping me that way. But the voice over and music is sooooo over the top and ponderous, it almost seems like a parody of some sorts. Really weird.

But yeah, looks like a fascinating story.

Lions For Lambs Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I really disliked the last Lion For Lambs trailer. This one makes it seem like a totally different, and more interesting film. But I’m still not sold.

I mostly worried that the movie will be too preachy and on the nose without actually being moving or challenging the audience intellectually. And yes, I’m afraid Tom Cruise was miscast.

I hope for the best, but I’m expecting the worse.

The Nines Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

WTF? No Seriously, WTF? That is one weird trailer. Honestly, after watching I still have no idea what the movie is about? perhaps it’s a bout a guy living with nine different versions of himself? Some parts of the trailer seem to point to something like that, but there a whole lot of other things in there that seem to go much beyond something like that.

The Nines has gotten some pretty good reviews since it premiered in Sundance. And John August, who wrote and directed the movie, is certainly a very talented screenwriter. So I was already interested in the movie, and the trailer made me more curious about it. But if I knew nothing about the film and I watched that trailer, I’m not sure what my reaction would have been.

New National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

This looks more than a little bit silly. Maybe a little stupid even. And yet, I think it just might turn out to be a fun little movie. The kind of stuff you forget about the minute you leave the theater, but that still makes for an entertaining couple of hours.

New The Kingdom Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I still think this looks quite a bit like a Michael Mann movie, but can it be as good as a Michael Mann movie? A lot of the pieces seem to be in place. The subject matter is interesting, the actors are good and I happen to think that the director Peter Berg (The Rundown, Friday Night Lights) is very talented. Reaching Michael Mann heights might be tough, but even if it doesn’t I think it will be a very good film.

Rendition Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Gavin Hood, who directed Rendition, has been announced as the director of Wolverine. I’m not sure exactly what they saw in this film that made they think “you know, this guy would be a great director for a super-hero movie.” Seems like a bold choice, which actually makes me quite happy.

As for this trailer, well, the movie looks like it should at the very least be interesting. And it could turn out to be a lot more than that.

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who Trailer

Recent Dr. Seuss movie adaptations, like The Cat in the Hat and The Grinch, have been pretty lame. This, however, looks like it could be interesting, if for no other reason than just because the animation is quite beautiful and gives the movie a look that seems to me to be more fitting to Dr. Seuss than recent live action versions.

Of course the film’s quality will depend a lot on how good the original comedy bits are, and what we see in the trailer isn’t exactly great. But still, mark me as hopeful.

NewHalloween Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I disliked the first Halloween trailer, mostly because I thought it made the movie look like a low rent version of the original. This new trailer does a much better job of making the new version seem like it’s own film. Unfortunately it also makes it look like crap.

I really do want this movie to be good. But the more I see the more I think it won’t.

Beowulf Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I have to say, the animation in this mostly looks incredible and extremely real looking. But then there are a couple of shots that just look off, either because of the characters movement or the look of something. And because everything else looks so good these shots stick out like a sore thumb.

I guess this is the problem with the sort of realistic animation Zemeckis is using here. Unlike normal animation, where we are willing to let a lot go because it’s obviously meant to real, we simply expect something close to perfection.

Than again maybe I am the only one who is expecting this. After all The Polar Express had the same problems and plenty of people went to see that. And animation aside, the movie looks very, very promising.

Resident Evil: Extinction Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Man, don’t you hate when you are watching a a trailer for a movie you know will suck and you find yourself thinking “Wow, that is kind of cool”? Well that is what just happened to me as I was watching this trailer. I know that Extinction isn’t going to be good because of the series track record. And the trailer itself has some bad elements. But still, I can’t help but to think that in the right hands this could actually be a good movie.
