Fracture Trailer

(Quicktime Version | Windows Media Version)

I don’t know the legal terminology, but, what would you call it if there was a movie you knew was going to be bad, and yet the trailer looked very interesting and you found yourself wanting to see it?

I just know this movie has a bunch of extremely silly and forced plot points ans scenes. And yet, the trailer does a good job of hiding that and showing something that could be an intriguing movie.

Damn those marketing people!

In the Land of the Women Trailer

(Quicktime Version | Windows Media Version)

I shouldn’t be allowed to comment on romantic movies, because I’m just a complete sucker for the. Honestly, give me some good looking and likable actors, an obvious plot we have see a hundred times before and a happy ending were they finally get together and I’m there.

Yes, I know that it’s embarrassing. Want to know something even worst? I like Adam Brody.

So, we have established that I’m going to see this movie and that I will probably even enjoy it. Will it be a good movie tough? I just don’t think so. Too much cliches, too obvious and too self-aware. And no, mentioning The Breakfast Club doesn’t make it better.

See, I can still be objective.

Once Trailer

Can you think of anything better than a low budget indie modern day musical set in Dublin? Ok, perhaps you can, put apparently this film was a hit with the Sundance audience. It’s obviously not destined to be a massive hit that everyone wants to see, but maybe it just might be a very nice movie.

Vacancy Trailer

(Quicktime Version | Windows Media Version)

Being stuck in a sleazy motel in the middle of nowhere is such an old and overused concept. I’m not sure adding a big-brother element (the victims being surveilled constantly) makes this different enough.

Of course, the concept has been overused for a reason: it works. And I’m a bit of a horror hound, so I’m still interested in the movie, even if I wish it was about something a little more original. If nothing else, I want to see how the stretch the premise into a full movie.

Hot Fuzz Movie Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

How much do I want to see this movie? A whole freaking lot. I’m sorry, but this just looks all kinds of awesome. Can I please have it now?

The combination of homage and parody that these crazy people used with Shaun of the Dead made that movie one of the most original an entertaining movies of the last few years. Perhaps no great cinema, but definitely mighty fun cinema. And Hot Fuzz seems to be taking the same successful path.

So yeah, I’m excited. How could I not be?

Slow Burn Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Rashomon type stories where you are trying to figure out who, if anyone, is telling the truth can be fun. And they can be not fun. This one is looking like the later.

Mostly I’m afraid that the movie is unnecessarily over the top. I mean, there is an explosion in the trailer for heaven’s sake. And the movies’ style and story seem a little all over the place.

And is it just me, or does the trailer tells way too much? I understand the urge to put as much of the good stuff in as possible, but leave something for us to find out in the theater, please.

Pathfinder Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

Although the trailer has some cool images, it makes the movie looks silly. And not in a a Conan silly-but-fun away, but in the “you’re are taking yourself way to seriously dude” way.

And our hero, played by Karl Urban? He just doesn’t look badass enough. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth.

Bug Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

I have to agree with Monika Bartyzel’s take on this one: the cheesy voice over really ruins the whole experience of the trailer.

Still, abstracting that the movie looks pretty creepy. Sort of excited about seeing it.

Atonement Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

You might never have heard anything about this movie, so here is the skinny: Directed by Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice) and starring Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice) and James McAvoy (not in Pride & Prejudice) the film tells the story of three people whose lives are changed when a 13 year-old girl called Bryony makes a mistake and wrongfully accuses one of them. The story takes place around the time of World War 2. Based on the book of the same name.

The trailer doesn’t really show us much, but it does give us an idea of the visuals and scope of the film. Which for now is enough to interest me. Let’s see what the final trailer will bring.

The film should open in the UK in September, and in the US in December.

Disturbia Trailer

(Quicktime Version)

It’s Rear Window, the teen edition!

Honestly, the trailer makes it look like this film might have some fun bits when it’s trying to be light and funny. But I’m just not buying the thriller aspect of it. And since this is, you know, a thriller, I’m thinking that is a big problem.

Disturbia is coming out way this Friday.
