Dead Silence Trailer

I’m a big horror fan. And as a big horror fan I must say this trailer looks a little too typical. All the scary parts seem like other scary parts we have seen in many other movies before, and so they don’t really work, at least not for me.

Also, I think the trailer shows too much. Instead of working with the creepiness of the idea of dead people without tongues and building a sense of dread around the possibility of the ventriloquist dummies coming to life, it prefers to go with a lot of action/scary shots. We don’t really need to see people shooting guns and running around in the trailer. We need to fear the possibility of people having to fire guns and run around. Sell the sense of dread and it will make people curious about what happens. Show them the action and they will feel like they already know what happens.

On the good side, the movie does seem to have a somewhat distinctive and polished visual style. And much of the premise is interesting. So maybe this is one of those movies that is actually better than the trailer?
