I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Trailer

(Quicktime/Windows Media Version)

Well, this look about as good as an Adam Sandler/Kevin James movie about two heterosexual men getting married could possibly be.

I actually think the idea of two very macho man having to pretend to be happily married gay men is pretty interesting, and could make for good comedy. But since Adam Sandler is the headliner, I’m pretty sure we will get the most obvious possible jokes. The presence in the trailer of the very cliched scene of a hot woman undressing in front of one of them makes me even more certain of that.

Now, if this was a Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson project I could see something really good happening. As it is, it will probably be a nice diversion when it pops up on cable.

First The Bourne Ultimatum Trailer

(Higher Quality Version)

The first Bourne movie was good. So was the second. And now comes the third. The question is: a worthy addition to the franchise, or one too many?

Well, the trailer makes this one looks a lot like the other two. Which I guess is a good thing. Kinda. Hopefully future trailers will tell us more things specific to the third movie that will make it stand out from the other two. Because I’m willing to just go see Bourne kick some shit up again, but I would love to see them also make this one special in it’s own right.

The film opens August 3rd of this year.

Redline Trailer

Didn’t they already make this movie? Wasn’t it called The Fast and The Furious? And then there was The Faster and The Furioser and finally Faster in Japan?

The synopsis for this film says:

“Redline” is an auto/action thriller that features the personal exotic car collection of the producer, real estate investor Daniel Sadek. Sadek who is financing the $26 million movie used his own cars including a Phantom Rolls Royce, Lamborghini Murcielago, Ferrari Enzo, Ferrari F430, Ferrari Scaglietti and two Mercedes SLR McLarens. Sadek’s $200,000 Porsche Carrera GT is actually crashed during one sequence.

Which tells me several things. The main two being that this movie is probably going to suck (like I needed more indication beyond the trailer) and that Daniel Sadek is one rich fool. Maybe someday I too will have that much money to waste.

Blades of Glory Trailer

(QuickTime Version)

I know this is an odd criticism to make about a Will Ferrell movie, but I think this one just might be too silly, lightweight and over the top.

Sure, most Wil Ferrell movies have some of that, but the really good one (Anchorman, Talladega) also had a more serious emotional core, and a believable and understandable conflict that the main character had to overcome. I’m sure that Blades will have funny moments, but can it maintain the steam all through the movie, or will the premise wear off after a while?

Then again, Dodgeball was completely awesome, so maybe this one will work too.

Meet The Robinsons Trailer

(QuickTime Version)

This trailer actually makes Meet The Robinsons seem funny, if not much else. Not enough to get me excited about seeing it, but enough to get me to go to the movie if my younger cousins ask me to take them.

I don’t see as much animation as I used to. And it is harder and harder for me to really want to 3D animated movies. I’m sure that In part that’s because I’m getting older. But I think it is also in part because after a few years when we were getting only a couple of 3D animated films a year, we now get a bunch of them. And the overall quality suffered, a lot, with most films adding nothing really exciting either visually or in terms of the story. Maybe Ratatouille be a return to form for Pixar? And maybe it will get me excited about animation again? Maybe.

Meet The Robinsons opens this Friday.

The Lookout Trailer

(QuickTime Version)

The Lookout Trailer - The funniest home videos are here

This trailer managed to do two things to me. First, it confused me. For example, the main character is brain damaged and has to write things in a little notebook. Does that mean he has memory problems? Or what? What does his condition entail? How does it affect the action in the movie? How does it make it more interesting? And is the Jeff Daniels character his shrink? What is this start at the end thing all about? Is the movie structured in some novel way?

Second, it made the parts I could understand seem pretty trivial and unoriginal. Like they could have been taken from any other crime thriller. Hot girl as bait, sleazy guy gets hero involved in heist, tries to screw hero afterwards, hero fights back. Whatever.

I have the impression that The Lookout is a smarter film than the trailer indicates. That impression comes from the people involved, the bits of reviews I have read and the general plot synopsis. But by itself, the trailer would make me think this was a a confused, mess of a movie.

28 Weeks Later Trailer

(QuickTime Version)

I’m now actively looking forward to this movie. Who would have thunk?

I still think that making this a sequel to 28 Days Later is silly. This movie is obviously going to be very different than the “original”. Most obviously, the visual styles are worlds apart. The first movie used, to great effect, a dark, grainy, digital look. The new one goes for a very crisp, very bright visual. Which is an odd choice for a Zombie movie.

Still, this movie might be able to stand on it’s own as a worthy addition to the Zombie genre. My main worry right now is that the trailer spends too much time with the military, and not enough with the family which we will supposedly accompany during the movie. Hopefully the actual film keeps the amount of scenes away from the family to a minimum and concentrates those in the beginning, before the infection breaks.

28 Weeks Later opens may 11.

Martian Child Trailer

So, let’s see if I understand. This is a movie about a man (John Cusack) adopting a peculiar kid. This kid thinks he is from mars, and acts in many strange ways, which include wondering around inside a box. The man happens to be a fantasy writer, so he ends up connecting with the child’s weirdness and loving him.

Can you say sappy?

I’m actually all for sappy movies with quirky characters. They can be fun. But this one looks a little too by the book. The whole adopts a child - falls in love with child - adoption service considers taking child away - fights to prove he can take care of child storyline has been done to death. And the trailer doesn’t make this one look any different than the hundred others that came before.

But I do love me some John Cusack, so perhaps I’ll end up giving it a chance anyway. Because, as established before, I’m just to easy.

The movie will be released in the US in June.

Fake 300 Trailers

Apparently, there is much fun to be had with the 300 trailer.

For example, ever wondered what 300 might be like if it was rated PG? Well, wonder no more.

And here is one that answer that eternal question: could 300 be any gayer?

Ratatouille Trailer

What can I say? It’s Pixar. It looks very good. Any surprises?
I guess I should say that this movie looks more interesting to me than Cars, which never really grabbed my interest. On the other hand, I don’t think it has much chance of reaching the greatness of the best Pixar movies, like Toy Story. The setting and the use of humans as many of the main characters limits the kinds of different elements that can be used in the movie, forcing it to be a little more grounded in reality. And I don’t think the story will have the same emotional punch that, say, Finding Nemo had.

But still, probably a solid animation on par with other non-best Pixar movies, which is already very, very good.
